Understanding Signal Win Rates
Why win rate alone is meaningless — what actually determines long-term trading profitability.
On this page
Most traders obsess over win rate. This is a mistake. A trader with 40% wins can easily outperform someone with 80% wins. Here's the math that actually matters.
The Math That Actually Matters
- Trader A: 80% win rate, wins $100, loses $400 → 10 trades = $800 - $800 = breakeven
- Trader B: 50% win rate, wins $300, loses $100 → 10 trades = $1,500 - $500 = $1,000 profit
- Trader C: 40% win rate, wins $500, loses $100 → 10 trades = $2,000 - $600 = $1,400 profit
Note
Formula: Expected Value = (Win Rate × Avg Win) - (Loss Rate × Avg Loss). Nezsig targets 2:1 R:R minimum — we only need a 34% win rate to break even.
What Win Rates Mean at 2:1 R:R
- < 40%: Losing money — review entry timing
- 40–50%: Breaking even (after fees, slight loss)
- 50–65%: Good, sustainable profitability
- 65–75%: Excellent — strong long-term results
- > 75%: Exceptional — usually only in strong trending markets
Evaluating Any Signal Provider
- Ask for verifiable trade history, not just claimed win rates
- Check total P&L in dollars, not just percentages
- Look at maximum drawdown — their worst losing streak
- Verify results are independently confirmed, not self-reported

This is exactly what I needed. The 10-layer system makes sense — explains why the signal quality is so consistent.
The No-Trade Zone filters are genius. I've been burned by signals during news events so many times. Good to know there's a filter for that.
Session bonus makes a lot of sense. London/NY overlap is always the most liquid period. Low liquidity breakouts are notorious fakeouts.
